Dear Mrs. Hooper and family:

I am so glad that you let me know about Brother Hooper. Please know that not only will we remember him in our prayers but you and your family as well. Hospice was wonderful to help me with Mom, I could not have done it without them. They are some of the most caring people I have every met. The Hoopers touched MANY lives, mine being one of them. I came to know the Lord in Puerto Rico in Bible school. Mrs. Boldt was my teacher and she lead me to the Lord. Then of course Brother Hooper baptized me. You all hold a very special place in my heart. THANK YOU FOR GIVING your time and talents to serve HIM and ministering to so many.

My Dearest Brother,
We are in shock. I am so sorry to hear about your condition. How can the world ever do without FRANK HOOPER? Especially my world. Frank, God used you in my life like no one ever except Dale. This little country boy from S.C. would never have accomplished all that God has permitted without your teaching, love, friendship and Godly example. You were the father figure I always needed.
But we must sacrifice for the FATHER is calling. I only wish I could be there when you see Jesus.
He has a crown for you so big it will take many angels to carry it.
What is even more glorious is that you are wonderfully humble and give HIM all the glory.

Our marriage has been successful mainly because of the foundation we got from you and MOM HOOPER.

We became grounded in the WORD by your teaching and preaching. When we arrived at the Center we knew so little about God's Word.

Our prayers are for your comfort and Mom's strength. We love you and Mom more than we have words to express. And yes THE GIRLS. Like the sisters I never had. You have so much to be proud of in these beautiful ladies. We love them all.

I am so afraid I am going to write something that is not gramatical correct. You also taught me a lot of grammer. I am so sorry I hit your thumb with the hammer. I know you forgave but I still think "how dumb of me" Anyway we have gotten lots of laughs out of that.

We love you dear Brother and we are praying for your comfort. My God Bless you.

Mom, we are praying for you in the days ahead. Remember GOD IS IN CHARGE.

Love in Him,

Dale and Howard Wallace

Dear Frank,
We are praying for you and want you to know how much we love you. It is because of you our sons committed themselves to the Lord Jesus Christ. We have always been so grateful to you for that. Clark is already with the Lord and some day we will find each other in that crowd up there - and oh how happy we all will be.
Thank you Eloise for being so wonderful to us at your Ceiba home. We love you too. God Bless you both.

Frank and Eloise,

We were so sorry to hear from Pastor Merrin today that Frank is not well. We have missed both of you in church. You are both such wonderful people and are a blessing to Tom, Amy and I.
We always enjoyed sitting in front of you at church because you were both so loving and the presence of God flowed through you both.

We are praying for you and just wanted you to know that you are loved and that you are being lifted in prayer. God alone is the only one who can provide the comfort and peace that you need at this most difficult time. Know that we are praying for you and that you are missed.

Dear Frank, Eloise and Becky,

You each have been in our thoughts and prayers since Kathy let us know of your news from Mayo. We pray that God will keep you in his perfect peace and the hard days ahead will be filled with His love.

We have so many nice remembrances of some holidays and many of your
other visits to Muskegon. We always had a lot to catch up on
and you were always so nice and interested in our family.

We know that Frank and my dad will have a glorious reunion on "the other side" and the rest of us will follow as we each will be called home to be with our Lord and our friends and family whom have gone before.

Our prayers are that Frank will not have to suffer and the rest of you will have the strength as you care for him.

With love and many prayers,
Rich and Jan (Cummins)

Bro.Frank and Eloise,
May God bless you both during this very difficult time.
When our life's path crossed in Puerto Rico, I was young 23yr. old
woman, and very busy with three young children.
Also, I believed one had to 'work' and 'be good' in order to get to Heaven. How thank-ful I am that you took the time to explain the simple plan of Salvation to me!
You both are very dear to my heart. Actually, you seem like family. I thank God for allowing our move to Puerto Rico.
You're remembered in my prayers.
Love:

Dear Pastor Hooper and Eloise,
Greetings from Michigan. Our hearts go out to you and your family.
What fond memories my dad has shared with me over the years of being in the Navy and having your family "take hime in" and lead him to the Lord. Dad would often refer to you as his spiritual dad. Even as I viewed your pictures on this website, I can't believe how much you two look alike. It must of been something in the drinking water in Peurto Rico.
Thank you for your smiles and hugs!

Dear Pastor and Mrs. Hooper and family,

We're so sorry to hear about the news of cancer. May the Lord give you a peace that only He can! I've known you my whole life! It was great to part of Grace Bible Church. What great friends and good times we had as we fellowshipped with each other. I really learned a lot under your teaching and really benefitted from your studying the Word! I still pull out notes from your messages!

May the Lord bless you as the time draws near to meet our Saviour. Give Joy a great big hug for us and tell her we miss her too! You will be greatly missed but Jesus will say to you, "Welcome, you good and faithful servant!"

We'll be praying for you and may God give you, Mrs. Hooper and the girls, strength and a peace that only He can give at this very difficult time! We love you very much!

You all were my family away from my family while in Puerto Rico and I'll never forget you for that. Pastor Hooper, you were a perfect example of someone with a shepherd's heart. I'm sure you've heard it many times before, but soon, you will hear again, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant," from the One who matters most. I love you all.

Frank and Eloise,
I want to thank you for being the awesome teachers that you are. Frank briefly taught our Young Married's Sunday School class at West Rome and I'm sure we learned many things from the book of Hebrews but I think during that short time God used just you Brother Frank as our walking, talking lesson plans.
Mr. Hooper, you seem to know the Bible so well and so deeply. It's as if it is your own skin and you've been wearing it all your life. Thank you for coming and teaching us. God has used you as a great example in my life. I'm sorry you are in such pain right now.

Dear Frank, Eloise, Girls & Family,
From Joe Rader, Coolville, Ohio
My thoughts, prayers, hopes and wishes are with you all at this time.
Frank, I cannot recall the number of times that I've thought of you in the past 34 years 9 months and so many days.
The wonderful memories of how we met in Puerto Rico and our many jaunts in the VW bus. Whether it was a late night trip back to the barracks or one of those wonderful adventures we took to El Yunque, Ponce or Ceiba. It was always fun with you and your joking ways. I know that they were fun times, but I also know that to you, it was a mission. A mission to your God to bring as many lost souls as you could in that little bus so they could find the Savior that you had found so many years earlier.
I Thank You for finding me and showing me The Way! For the many teachings while I was there in Puerto Rico, and the many times over the years that we've kept in touch.
But, most of all, I Thank You for your vision. A vision that knew that everything would work out fine for a young man and his wife in another country with many unknowns ahead of you. It just shows me how much trusting in God can do if we just put our faith in Him. I know that you put your faith in Him and that he has rewarded you over all these years. Those rewards are only a small part of what you will receive when you are in the arms of our Saviour and he invests you with your many crowns. I Thank God So Much that my name will be on one of those crowns.
I LOVE YOU DEARLY!!!!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, my friend. I was reading a tract this morning, and this is what it says.
"My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever; for which cause we faint not, but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. You will always hold a special place in my heart.

Dear Frank and Eloise,
It was 50 years ago this past January that I made my first visit to the Centr in San Juan, then as newly-weds Mary and I were part of the Center at Roosevelt Roads. How grateful we are for both of you whom we consider 'giants in the faith.'
May you and your family sense the love and strength of the many folks that you have ministered to over the years.

Dear Frank,

This is my second try, so I hope it's not a repeat. Youmight not remember me, but I came to visit Mike and Becky in 1978. What a GREAT summer that was. I have such fond memories of the peaceful days at your home and church. Thanks for all of the things that you taught. You always had a smile on your face and showed us all how to enjoy all of the gifts God has given us. I will never forget your fancy Puerto Rican shirts and the drives down those crazy Puerto Rican roads. What a great place to enjoy the beautiful earth that God created for us. Since we all know that heaven exceeds anything we can imagine, I know that you have a great adventure ahead.

Love,

I count it a privaledge to know you both and call you my friends. You are probably the most gentle man that I have ever known! Dear Bro. Frank and Eloise,
We just want to send our love to you dear folks - you will never know just how much you mean to us.
Our prayers are with you and the family.
Our minds go back over the years of knowing you, Frank, and we can thank God for every rememberance of you. You have been a faithful servant for Him. He has used you to impact many lives over the years and we are part of that number. Your Bible studies at Grace Bible Church were the best - we learned so much from your teaching. Thelma was saved while there and you baptized her. You were a spiritual father to Larry and you encouraged us to seek God's will for our lives as we shared our desire to be missionaries and more specifically missionary pilot. Over the years you ministered to us,prayed and supported our ministry in the Philippines and what an encourager you were to us. Your faithful Bible teaching, living example, discipleship, fellowship and friendship will forever be with us.
You always remembered Larry on his birthday - you never forgot - he loved to share a few jokes with you and you always came back with one.
We have so many memories over the year and we Praise God for allowing you, Eloise and girls to be a special part in our lives - we have been so blessed.
We are upholding you and the family before the throne. God is good and some day soon we shall join you.
All our love,
Larry and Thelma Holman

Dear Frank and Eloise,
How surprised and shocked we were to read your email. Immediately it brought back a flood of memories...all good except for some of your really corny jokes, Frank. I really want to address this letter to both of you because whether you realize it or not, you both have been extremely instrumental and influential in my life. At the same time, I have to ask both of you for forgiveness for not being a better friend to you and staying in touch as I should have. I honestly do think of you both quite often...a lot more than you think.

The first time I visited you guys, I was not yet out of high school. Frank, you had been in Toledo preaching and somehow you ended up at our house a couple of times. I guess my parents took pity on you because you looked so skinny and you had those “puppy-dog-please-feed-me” eyes. At any rate, you made the mistake of saying to me (I think I was a junior in HS at the time, about 1955 or 56), “Why don’t you come down and spend the summer with us in Puerto Rico?” And so I did. I didn’t know I was going to have to work. I had seen all those travel brochures of beautiful beaches and palm trees and Frank, you had me mixing cement and doing something everyday. I enjoyed it though. Eloise, I can still remember all those delicious meals you cooked up. I don’t know how you managed. I think I only stayed two weeks that time. (I know, Frank, you’re probably saying “ONLY!!!) I went down two more times after that for extended periods and then a couple of times for just a quick visit.

However, it was the third visit that really mattered. Frank, I don’t know if you remember this or not, but it was a Sunday evening service and you were celebrating communion. You made it clear that if an individual was not saved or not sure of their salvation, then they shouldn’t take communion. The latter was my case. Of course I did not take communion and you noticed that. After everyone else had left, you came to me and asked me if I wanted to talk about it. That night you lead me to the Lord.

So, how does one say thanks to an individual for saving their life (Don’t get technical with me here, Frank...I know you didn’t save me, God did, but you were the instrument!)? That night put me on a path that would determine with whom (Frank, please notice the proper use of the preposition) I would associate, my choice of a wife and how we would raise our children. I can honestly say that because of what happened that night in Puerto Rico some 45-50 years ago, we have two children who know the Lord, they have married spouses who know the Lord and they are raising their children likewise. What a heritage you two have given us.

As I’m writing this, I can’t tell you all the things that are coming back to me. Nights in “Termite Cottage” keeping you and Eloise awake with our (Les Grammer and me) twangy songs and horrible southern accents, but I’ll save those for another email.

Frank, there is nobody I know for whom the verse (again, notice the correct usage of the preposition) “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” more appropriately applies. You truly have fought the good fight and kept the faith. However you have not yet finished the race. Keep on running, Frank! Keep on running!

All our love, prayers and thoughts.

Dear Frank and Eloise,

We are so sorry to hear of the afflictions of Pastor Hooper's Earth body.

You have meant so much to Connie and Myself and the Kornelson family. You were always there like a beacon of light in the night. Much like the North Pier that jutts out into Lake Michgan calling in those in trouble and leading so many safely home.

I especially remember our walks and talks in Fairplain. We talked about the Lord and our families and your garden. You know Pastor Hooper your best harvest will be from all of those seeds that you planted in so many peoples hearts about our Lord.
A Job Well Done My Brother!

You and Eloise are in our Prayers.

Frank and Eloise:

We were surprised and saddened by this news. Dianne and I prayed for you this morning after reading the blog.

Thanks Frank and Eloise for offering me friendship and salvation at the Servicemen's Center. Thanks for keeping up with us all these years, for supporting us when we were missionaries in Colombia. Thanks for being such a good friend and just accepting me the way I am.

Your investment into my life affected everything I did after leaving Puerto Rico. I remember you used to say about your family of girls, "Some of only know how to make one kind!" Well, guess what that describes us perfectly with four sons!

All four of our sons are living in Florida although Josh is presently in Iraq with SF. We are working real estate, I worked last tax season with H & R Block, Dianne is reinstating her RN. "What in the world is God doing???"

Lord bless you and keep you in this journey. This ultimate adventure in this life will open the door into His presence.

Frank,
We are praying for you, that God will give wisdom to your health care providers and comfort to you and Eloise and your family, loved ones and many friends. We remember your many visits to our home, and I (Dave) remember your visits to Coloma and Midway Baptist where, as I'm sure you'll recall, my dad, Elmer, played the organ. Those were good days. My folks and Joan's (Ernie and Mariana Collingham) are all together in heaven now. Please know you'll remain in our thoughts and prayers during these challenging days for you and your family.

Dear Bro. Frank (the Elder)& Eloise
Thanks so much for your phone call just before going on that long van drive. It is so typical of you to be thinking of others (me and my Leukemia), while you were struggling with cancer yourself.
Thanks both of you for all your input into my brand new Christian life back in PR in '73 with MCB10.
And thanks for all the communication and encouragement over the years since then; and even remembering my birthday every year.
May God extend His special grace and care to both of you in this latter portion of your lives.
I love you very much!

Dear Pastor Hooper and Eloise,
What sweet testimonies from your many spiritual children. We have all been privileged to have been blessed by your focused and faithful walk with The Lord Jesus. Because you and Eloise gave us the spiritual truths of
God's Word (as well as much physical food :)!) week after week, we are still praising God and telling others. I am seeing this from all the "love letters" being sent to you all. I hope you don't mind that I am enjoying them too! They are beautiful. Truly a gift for you from our Blessed Heavenly Father.

I also called Sue and Joe Thompson in Utah to have them praying. They do not have a computer. Sue is going to a friend's house to see all the pictures. She will be writing you.

The pictures of you all are great! It is special seeing the family. I saw Storm's daughter. I remember her and Jeanette. What a beautiful family.

Dear Bro. Frank and Eloise,
I am so used to contacting you by e-mail that I am afraid my first attempt to contact via your website failed due to me hitting the preveiw button, so I am trying again. My sincere apologies.

We are truly thankful to hear that the Lord, in His great mercy, is giving you comfort during these trying times. God is merciful.

Bro. Frank & Eloise,
We will never forget our stay in P.R. nor our times of wonderful fellowship; the welcome center and the food.
P. R. was one of the highlights of our time spent travelling in the navy.

I contacted K.C. Fehl to let him know of your condition, as I also send him daily nuggets of truth to encourage him.

Eloise, our Tuesday morning Ladies Bible studies, in my home, were a great blessing to me and I felt priviledged to host it; and the fellowship of all these wonderful women is something that I'll always cherish.

Both you and Bro. Frank influenced our lives in so many ways and we love you for it. Also, our contact over the years has meant so much.

As I read your e-mail posts, I recognize some of the names of ones who were in P. R. with us. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. I have often wondered what became of you all.

Because of Jesus,

Dear Brother Frank and Eloise,

I know that you read the "Our Daily Bread" by RBC Ministries, but I found the devotional for this morning (8/11/06) especially comforting and thougt it was worth passing on to our brothers and sisters who may have missed it. Vernon Grounds shares,

Hudson Taylor (1832-1905) was the founder of the China Inland Mission and a great servant of God. But after the ferocious Boxer Rebellion of 1900, in which hundreds of his fellow missionaries were killed, Taylor was emotionally devastated and his health began to fail. Nearing the end of life's journey, he wrote "I am so weak that I cannot work. I cannot read my Bible; I cannot even pray. I can only lie still in God's arms like a child and trust."

Brother Frank, Eloise, and all of us who love them so very much are passing through a time when we may be feeling tired of body and sick of heart. Borrowing from Mr. Grounds' words, we may find it difficult to focus our minds on Biblical promises. It has become hard to pray. We're told to not write ourselves off as spiritual castaways. For we are joining a host of God's people who have experienced the dark night of the soul.

When we endure such times, all we can do-indeed, all we need to do-is lie still like a child in the arms of our heavenly Father. Words aren't necessary. A comforting Father doesn't expect His child to make speeches. Neither does God. He knows we need His soothing care. In times of trouble, His mercy holds us up (Psalms 94:18). We may trust Him to carry us through that dark night of the soul and on into the dawning light.

Under His wings (we) are safely abiding, Though the night deepens and tempests are wild; Still (we) can trust Him; (We) know He will keep (us), He has redeemed (us), and (we) are His children.

All of the above words have brought some quietness to my heart. In the early 1970s,when Vance Havner was walking through the valley, he shared with the students at Moody,
"I've become shipwreaked on God and stranded on His omnipotence." May God grant us that experience as well.

With continued love and prayers,
Gary

Dear Frank, Eloise, and girls,
I was so surprised and saddened when I read the e-mail. Then went on the blog site and read the extent of Frank's illness. I would never have guessed from your last e-mail that you had anything wrong.
You were concerned about Eloise having to go to the Cleveland Clinic for tests.
I am so thankful that through a visit to PR of some fine folks who work with my wife at SIM, I was able to get your e-mail address. God knew I needed to be in contact with you again. Thank you for answering and caring that I wrote.
I have been praying for you all and have over the years, even when out of touch. I really can't explain how much being a part of your extended family meant to me and many others who were away from home. You all made us feel like part of the family. I cherish all of the memories. Trips in the VW bus, driving it to pick up kids for Bible School, trips up El Yunque, SS parties at Luquillo Bch.
Howard, I remember the thumb and hammer trick, hitting Jeannette in the face with a clod of dirt, and hearing I never moved so fast before, running cement mixer all day pouring floor in new church, playing the piano and wishing I could sing in the choir instead. Thank you for your leading and teaching. I can honestly say, that for me, God had to send me to PR, the only one out of my class in Memphis. I don't know where I would be without your influence on me. I have had recall many times of things you taught, including grammar, that have helped me. Thank you both for doing God's will, willingly and humbly.
I am praying for you both, also the girls and grands and greats, as I know that as much as all we step family members love you, they love you more!
May God comfort and keep you and as much as we would like to see you here, he may need you more. May his will be done.
God bless you all

Love in him,
John & Sherri

Dear Eloise and girls,
Tears of wonderful memories came to my heart and eyes today, when Maria shared with me about the passing of our friend and Pastor, Brother Frank. We sat just remembering you both and the good times in PR.
You have so many memories I know, and God will bless you with those and keep them close to your heart. How we remember the good times with your both in PR at Grace Bible Church. And how patient your were in advising us how to teach our young children... Guess we did ok, because they are doing well...
Remember that ol' hymn, "I Don't Know about Tomorrow"? Just sing it one more time... how true the message was back then, more even more true today, fore we truly know who holds tomorrow...
God Bless you, Eloise, May the Lord comfort your heart, wipe your tears and give you His Peace. Bob Jones
